Welcome to the Beeston & Chilwell Book Club(s) website.
We're a friendly and sociable bunch based in west Nottingham, reading mostly (but not exclusively) fiction. We meet monthly in local pubs or each others' homes to discuss the book chosen by one of us the month before.
Due to the continued success of the group and the large number of enquiries from potential new members, we have recently split into two ...like an amoeba, with the original group (BCBC1) continuing to meet on a Thursday and the second group (BCBC2) meeting usually on a Wednesday, also once a month. There are no meetings in August or December.
Both groups have 11-12 regular members and we each choose a book in rotation. None of us are obsessive about reading, nor 'precious' about our choices, it's just fun to read things we might not otherwise pick up, and to discuss it and hear everyone elses' opinions with a bottle of wine or two to get us in the mood. Our conversations often diverge into other areas but that's fine with us - as we are mostly in our 30-50's we tend to have plenty to talk about.
Current members of BCBC1 are: Gillian (the founder), Teresa, Kathryn, Sue, Kate, Jo, Jenny, Cathy, Monica, Sunita and Leah.
Current Members of BCBC2 are: Jo, Maria, Sarah, Katherine, Alison, Pam, Julia, Julie, Ben, Faranza, Seema and Gillian.
Unfortunately both groups are at full capacity so are not currently open to new members, although the situation is fluid and of course we would be more than happy to let you know as and when places become available. Please have a look at the books we've read, and the choices we'll be making over the coming months. If there is enough interest, we will get BCBC3 started up (maybe on a Tuesday...)
